But on Thursday evening the story will come to an end as Alfie Moon finally finds out who his wife Kat Slater is having an affair with.
And in true EastEnders style the climax is truly dramatic, resulting in Alfie chucking his wife out of not just the pub, but his life forever.

The landlord, played by Shane Richie, follows his unsuspecting wife, played by Jessie Wallace, to the secret bedsit where she has been carrying on her affair.
Here he will discover which of the Branning brothers, Derek, Jack or Max, has been secretly seeing his wife.
0n finding out who it is, distraught Shane flips and in a preview picture from Friday's show he is seen chucking her out of the famous Queen Victoria pub.

An insider on the show said: 'Alfie decides enough is enough and throws her out of the pub-and his life- for good.'
Viewers will be shocked by whichever brother it turns out to be, but at this stage all of them are still a possibility.
Max Branning famously had an affair with Jean's daughter, Stacey, for months back in 2007 while she was married to his son Bradley.
The oldest brother, Derek, is the most recent brother to join the Square and he has been involved in a complicated money making scheme with Alfie.
Who done it? It is thought to be either Jack, Derek or Max Branning who is having an affair with Kat
Finally there's the youngest brother Jack, who hasn't had the same relationship with Kat since the baby swap storyline a while back.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Shane believes viewers will be shocked when they find out the truth.
He said: 'There will be a big intake of breath. I think it’s what EastEnders does so well, playing that double-edged tragedy and the long game.'
When asked if Alfie is planning on taking his revenge, he replied: 'Big time. We’re talking him growing some big giant baubles for Christmas.'
Kat and Alfie have had a tumultuous relationship during which Kat fell pregnant with his cousin's child and has cheated on him numerous times.
