And as fans of Matthew Macfadyen and Jerome Flynn gear up to watch the actors bring their talents to the east end, new stills for the BBC programme Ripper Street have been released.
Set in 1889 the frames show Detective Edmund Reid (Macfadyen) and Bennet Drake (Flynn) as they try to solve the murders which shook Whitechapel following Jack the Ripper's reign of terror.

Cutting suave figures: Macfadyen and Flynn take on the role of 19th century detectives in London
Cutting dapper figures Macfadyen and Flynn make for two very convincing detectives in their three piece ensembles complete with time pieces and hats.
Adam Rothenberg, who takes on the role of Captain Homer Jackson, is pictured in a rather quirky get-up, consisting of a leather blazer, floral patterned waistcoat and checked trousers.
The leading ladies in the series Rose (Charlene McKenna) and Long Susan (MyAnna Buring) both look picture perfect in their Victorian dresses.

The story zeros in on the infamous H Division of the Metropolitan Police, the detectives who investigated and manned the east London streets in the aftermath of the Ripper’s killing spree.
The first show, which will run one hour, sees Chief Inspector Frederick Abberline (Clive Russell) believe Jack the Ripper has returned to terrorise the city following the brutal murder of a female.
But convinced a new kind of evil is set to rise, Reid (Macfadyen) believes otherwise.

The series, which has also been commissioned by BBC America, will focus on the two 19th century detectives who tried to catch the serial killer on the job.
But instead of filming on the actual London streets where the crimes took place, the production team decided to recreate 19th century London in Dublin, Ireland.
An army barracks and the area in and around Dublin Castle is being used as a backdrop for the atmospheric scenes that reflect the dark and dingy underworld in that area of London at the time.

The drama also stars Luther‘s David Dawson, Jonathan Barnwell, David Wilmot and Ian Bannon.
